Choosing a Physician.
Choosing a doctor for your child is an important step to providing your child with quality health care. It can also be an overwhelming and tiring task. But trust me you want your child to have the best and not every doctor is that. Some doctors are out there just for the money they could care less about the patient. Not all are that way but alot of them are or there very passive or there right and nothing you could ever suggest because you dont have a degree is right, sometimes let me tell you not the case at all. There not with your kid every day 24/7 you are. They need to realize that. Im telling you though then you have the type of parents that will just do anything a doctor says with there child because there a doctor, well they are human to they make mistakes same as us only difference they read about and how to fix the problems and most likely we haven’t, and they are trained to cut people open. Now im not saying you can get to that level but you can find out what they are suggesting and then go and look up anything and everything you can on that subject, Make sure you type it in online different ways especially if your searching for something more uncommon. Then go back and ask questions no question is a dumb question, there is no such thing you have to feel comfortable and if you dont ask you may regret later, and besides who cares what anyone thinks about what questions or how many you ask, no one is going to replace your child if a wrong decision is made.
The first thing is to find a doctor that participates in your particular health plan. I live in the United States where there seems to be numerous health care plans. Depending upon the plan offered by your particular employer, you may have an abundance of doctors to choose from, or you may just have a few. It’s important to call the doctor’s office to make sure that they are still participating in your particular insurance plan. Don’t trust the insurance company to have the most up to date information!
If you can, it’s helpful to find a doctor who has other partners in the practice. You can still choose one particular doctor to manage your child’s care, but it is nice to have other options if that particular doctor has a full schedule and your child is quite sick.
Some other things to ask about when looking for a doctor: does the office have extended hours? Do they have weekend and evening appointments? Is there a separate office for well child check ups? Can you schedule and appointment yourself, or must you go through a nurse triage line where the nurse determines if your child is sick enough for an appointment?
Lastly but certainly not the least to consider: is this particular office respectful to you? Do they value you as an important member of “the team” meaning you know your child better than anyone else, so they have to be willing to listen.
Finding the right doctor can be a lot of work, but the payoff for your labors is huge. When your child is sick or needs emergency care, you’ll be glad that you invested all that time finding the very best doctor to take care of your precious baby trust me we know for sure. I am very hesitant about what doctors i let touch our son. He has his main man our surgeon doctor Rogers, then he has his awesome caring pediatrician that we just got a few months ago, she is great, she always takes the time to listen to what we have to say no matter how long or complicated it may get with Lucian’s esophageal atresia. And she always checks with our surgeon on everything and that makes us very happy as well. If you have a child with special needs it is very important that everyone is on the same page. The last thing I will stress is check there back ground history make sure they are bored certified.
